Follow-up from WFIM’s Virtual Volunteer Town Hall & scheduling our first Work Party Weekend

WFIM hosted its first Virtual Volunteer Town Hall on October 18th via Zoom. The Town Hall was attended by about a dozen prospective volunteers – both past Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad volunteers and new faces interested in getting involved.

WFIM’s Executive Director, Bethan Maher, presented a more detailed plan surrounding WFIM’s four-phased plan, and, together with Roadmaster, Brian Wise, presented a list of potential volunteer projects and priorities. Volunteers, many of whom have considerable experience in the railroad industry, made suggestions for RailCycle safety, restoration priorities for rolling stock, and more.

Volunteers and WFIM staff are planning a series of “Work Party Weekends,” – hosted about once a month at the museum site, prioritizing projects which will help the museum open to the public in the Spring of 2023. WFIM is currently working on “onboarding” volunteers and will announce a volunteer schedule shortly!

The evening was filled with laughter and good humor in addition to being informational. Many thanks to those that attended and those that are interested in getting our volunteer program off the ground!
